Mill House

MILL HOUSE | SILVERMINE, CT

Private Residence

Using salvaged barn wood sourced from various mills throughout upstate Connecticut and New York, the historical feel of the Mill House was kept intact. The original post and beam structure was preserved at its core along with the original fireplace and the arch architectural details on the exterior.

The spectacular views and vantage point was enhanced with new floor to ceiling windows throughout the first floor. A central staircase made of steel treads and glass banisters gives the interior a modern update and amplifies the overall spaciousness. The wall sconces that are used throughout the Mill House as well as the Inn and Tavern at GrayBarns are burlap and steel from Pergola in New Preston, CT. In the first floor master bedroom, vaulted ceilings are complemented with large Bleu Nature driftwood pendants.

Tucker Robbins rattan pendants made of fishing baskets hang over the custom kitchen island which serves as the main gathering place and integrates into the open living room. High-end finishes and appliances including a Thermador range and Gaggenau refrigerator lend a hand for modern home cooking.

Adjacent to the main building is the Carriage House which was renovated into a guest quarters with studio apartment and downstairs office.
